Lucy – The Unconditional Love – Chapter IV

In the year 1998 my parents decided to come to Delhi for our betterment as in my home town there were no good schools or colleges where we could get quality education.

Honestly I never wanted to leave my home town but it was my parent’s decision so had to settle in Delhi. Initially I was missing Lucy, my hometown friends and my old house.

Luckily our landlord used to have a dog named “Darby”, and I used to play with him J J

Still I was missing everything , but the best part was that we used to have short trips to my home town so for me it was a reason to be happy because that was the best time for me to come to my home town and be with people I had spent my childhood.

During my second trip to my home town I could not found Lucy around and I was really worried where she was. My neighbour told me that since you had left for Delhi, Lucy started roaming in other streets as well. And now she does not come to our area at all. Also people told me that Lucy had delivered 5 cute puppies, and that was great news to me. This was the time I did not see her around. I came back to Delhi with a heavy heart!!

The third trip was during Diwali festival and I was hoping that this time I will figure out where Lucy has disappeared. I was sitting on the roof to observe sunshine and saw some familiar dog roaming with other street dogs, and yes it was Lucy!!

By the time I went downstairs to catch her she was disappeared. I almost though that she had forgotten me anyways I came back and hoping that will catch her next time. My friend and neighbors told me that they did not see her for so long, it’s just you are here may be your vibes brought Lucy back in our area.

Very next morning I saw Lucy in our area and wasn't looking comfortable et al, she was trying to get rid of something. I went close to her and saw that some jerk tied a very thin plastic thing around her neck therefore she was not able to breath normally. I asked my neighbor if we could really help her in getting rid of that thing. Hey tried pulling that thing but Lucy ran away because it was hurting her.

I waited for my Daddy to come back to home and explained him everything and he replied – do not worry she will be alright, she is a street dog and she will manage things so you just relax. I was convinced with his thoughts.

Next day Lucy was sitting at my staircase and was looking very low, I was anxious because I wanted to take her to the doctor anticipating that she is down with fever or having some stomach problem and nobody was listening to me. I was just a kid who could only yell and cry but was not able to do anything, only thing I could do was praying for her.

After two days Lucy was lying dead on the street!

I was taken aback: screaming at my parents that we could have saved her, she was just sitting at our staircase yesterday and we did nothing for her.  We could have done something to save her, at least could have taken her to the doctor, my parents were not any having answer for my emotional queries! For the very first time I saw my mother emotional for an animal and that was my Lucy!  She did not say anything but her eyes expressed her feelings for Lucy!

O Lucy I miss you, you were the loveliest creature on this earth who was there for me & my family, gave me an Unconditional Love. I gave you nothing just food but you gave me your honest love. I left you to pursue my dreams and you left me to go miles away with no chance of coming back ever!!

I will always repent that I could do nothing for you. May be you were waiting for me to come back so that we can see each other during your last days on this earth.

You will always be missed; you are there in my fond memories and will be cherished as one of the best buddies I have found ever!

You gave me an opportunity to write about you and express my love for you.

You taught me the meaning of Unconditional Love!

Lucy - The Unconditional Love - Chapter III

As usual my brother was ignorant about my activities, love for Lucy and I was busy in saving my brother from bad souls around and beating them up to safeguard him ( I hated him for this, brothers are meant to safeguard sisters,  in our house it was the reverse case). After that appetite incident my parents got to know about Lucy so they seemed to have accepted that I can feed her but they never allowed me to let her enter our house.

Surprisingly Lucy sensed that my mother did not like her (my mommy really hates dog and if by any chance any dog or pup tries to snuggle her she would love to shoo them away).

One day I tried getting Lucy into my house, she was following me closely but all of sudden she stopped and that was kind of shock of my life because my mother was staring at me as if she is going to crush me :’( mere ko to almost heart attack hi aa gaya tha choti si umar me :D :)

As my mommy was standing there.....you would not believe it Lucy ran back like anything and she never dared to enter the house again. One of the major reason for mommy to not  letting Lucy enter the house was my little sister. My mother was apprehensive if Lucy could do any harm to my little beautiful angel – Niharika (She was a true blessing of God).

Lucy used to sit, sleep and eat on the stair case of the entry gate of my house, and if somebody tried to knock the gate unnecessarily then  they had a tough time because Lucy used to bark at them and sometimes bite to keep them away from the house :P She never allowed any stranger soul to even knock the door if she was around. She used to recognize my family members,  local relatives, servants and of course neighbors so she was friendly with them.

One incident I still remember my mausi and family came to visit us, she was supposedly to give us a surprise but guess what....she herself got a surprise “LUCY guarding the entrance GATE”.She was not even letting mausaji to knock the door, she was barking at the top of her voice and my mom she did not care that why she was barking so loudly. Thanks to my neighbors who managed to call my mother outside hence my mausi and family landed in the house.

I came back from the school and my mommy was narrating Lucy’ story how she was guarding the house from mausiji and my cousins were scared of her. One of cousin (used to pretend that she is very sensitive and I never liked her for her DILLIWALA Attitude, chumui types :D ) was telling me how horrifying this incident was for her and she was really scared. I laughed out loudly and told her that Lucy is  a sweetheart and she barks only at devils :) My cousin was utterly annoyed but  in a very sophisticated manner she suppressed her feeling of beating me to death :D

Days were passing on: we were busy with our school, home works, tuition and yes fun with Lucy was always there :)

Lucy - The Unconditional Love - Chapter II

As a kid it was fun for us to play with her everyday and it has been so many days still she was roaming  & sniffing around, eating roadside stuff, barking at kids and running for her safely whenever any vehicle was passing by (my house was at GT road in Jalesar, Uttar Pradesh).

It became our habit to play with her, snuggle her and pet her every day, one day we decided to give her a name since she was determined to stick to our colony. So we came up with a name for her, everyone agreed to that and magically she seemed to adopt the name – “Lucy”.

Since we adopted her (unofficially) at our own, we were worried about the shelter because we all knew that our parents will not allow us to keep her in the house.  (I have so many stories to narrate how my mother fled all the pups I had brought home!). None of us were having courage to ask our parents to keep Lucy with us. So we left her at her own to find a shelter for her self.

One morning we could not find her in the colony, we were worried and filled with weird though like if somebody had picked her up or any of neighbors shooed her away or she was crushed by any of the vehicle n all. But, she was resting at her “self searched accommodation” which was an empty plot in the neighborhood. After seeing her in the sleeping mode we were happy that she was perfectly alright.  Gradually she became part of us!

Days were passing on with our games (Mario), playing with Lucy, mocking each other, small fights with friends, playing with dolls and organizing our doll’s weddings too (cant forget this ever).

All of sudden my father found that my hunger increased significantly, I started eating 4 chapatis and having more than 2 bread slices in the breakfast or whatever thing cooked by mommy, my consumption increased. He got worried if I was having stomach worms or there was some other disease which led me to eat food beyond my capacity.

And one day he discovered the reason of my increased appetite and I received a tight slap as a reward: D
